In 1990 Rhonda Campbell identified a need for affordable independent services, that allowed families and schools to access ongoing speech pathology, free of waiting lists and departmental limitations. Rhonda commenced as West Gippsland Speech Pathology at a half day per fortnight in Morwell. In 1992 Rhonda moved the part time practice to 34 Albert Street, Warragul. By 1994 a full time practice was created at 41 Albert Street, Warragul. The first employed Speech Pathologist joined the Practice in 1996. Referrals to the clinic and our involvement with Catholic and Independent schools in the region meant another move in 1999 to 2/7 Barkly Street, Warragul. Staff included three full time Speech Pathologists and our first office manager. We changed our name to Bellfield Speech Pathology.
More than 1000 families and 28 schools have benefited from our support and assistance. Clinics have been conducted in Warragul, Leongatha, Moe, Pakenham and Cranbourne. Training for parents and teachers using THRASS (Teaching Handwriting Reading and Spelling Skills) and HANEN (Early intervention Parent Training Program) have been particularly beneficial to schools and families.
Rhonda has four children who all attend local schools and shares the experiences of all parents who wish for the best possible educational outcomes for their children. She has lived in Warragul since 1999 and in the Gippsland area since 1985.
